Speech and Language Teacher

Essential Functions

  • Monitors student progress and ensures alignment with IEP goals and objectives.
  • Maintains appropriate student records and progress reports as required by District, State, and Federal standards.
  • Serves as a resource for other staff members on how best to support students with speech and language problems.
  • Participates in IEP meetings and parent consultations and offers guidance for families on how best to assist students with speech and language problems outside of the classroom.
  • Keeps up to date with new developments in speech and language therapy research and techniques and incorporates them into lesson plans.

Additional Duties

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of speech/language principles, theories, testing, assessment tools, etc. as well as proven intervention methods for students with speech and language problems.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Qualifications Profile

  • PA Special Education - Speech and Language Impaired PK-12 Certification required
  • Master's degree in relevant area of study
  • Successful speech and language teaching experience in a K-12 setting preferred.
