Job Coachopeningat our Transition Academy in Niantic, Connecticut.
General Scope of ResponsibilitiesTo provide appropriate school and community-based services to students enrolled in the LEARN Special Education Programs.
Relationship within the OrganizationThis person is directly responsible to the Special Education Teacher, Transition Specialist and works closely with the BCBA/BCABA, Coordinator and SSS administration. This person is also a representative of the LEARN SSS program during community-based learning.
Responsibilities- Assist in the development of community based job sites in collaboration with community contacts, site supervisors, and under the supervision of the Transition Specialist and Special Education Teacher.
- Follow the direction of the Special Education Teacher regarding the implementation of program accommodations and their development in the workplace.
- Execute behavior plans and collect data while maintaining student privacy and dignity in community settings.
- Implement a variety of instructional strategies during community-based learning.
- Conduct transition assessments provided by transition specialist, special education teacher or related service provider in the workplace or during other community-based learning opportunities.
- Implement all strategies utilized in the overall curriculum plan, as based on the IEP, related to inclusion as appropriate, individual work in a school and community settings, including collecting and monitoring data, interpreting the data in conjunction with LEARN staff, and modifying the program as needed for each child.
- Demonstrate program interventions and community-based learning instructional strategies to classroom staff and assist in their training as needed.
- Prepare instructional settings and materials for student programs.
- Supervise and assist students in all settings specified on their educational plan.
- Collaborate on all aspects of the student’s program with inclusion setting staff when appropriate, and LEARN staff.
- Establish as fully as possible a supportive relationship with the student(s) while maintaining the role as an authority figure.
- Assist with student toileting, feeding and any other health responsibilities.
- Pass competencies and utilize approved de-escalation and restraint procedures
- Lift up to 50 lbs when necessary.
- Utilize Program Change procedures including communication with teacher and BCBA regarding special information about individual students (as needed).
- Implement behavior change programs as written in all areas of student need including educational and behavioral programs.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students/staff.
- Be punctual and consistent in meeting daily time schedules throughout the school year.
- Work effectively and cooperatively with other staff members/families and community contacts.
- Participate in professional development activities and demonstrate competencies related to training.
- Attend team and staff meetings as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as appropriately assigned by the Student Support Services Administration.
Experience, Knowledge, and TrainingEducation/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- OR Paraprofessional (Parapro) certification with two years of college.
- OR current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) and Parapro certifications.
Experience:
- Preferred experience working with children or adults with autism, developmental disabilities, or emotional/behavioral challenges, and their families.
- Previous job coaching experience preferred.
