Job Description - Anticipated Head Football Coach/ Athletic Coordinator (Grades: 9-12) (RTP20250416-046)

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

  • Keeps a line of communication open between campus administrators and coaches.
  • Keeps abreast of University Interscholastic League policies and procedures, as well as Dallas ISD athletic policies and procedures for all sports.
  • Maintains a workable situation in the assigned school by supervising the use of facilities and personnel.
  • Attends sports contests and sports events or assigns a coach to help supervise the event.
  • Attends meetings with District Athletic Directors, the entire coaching staff, and playoff negotiation meetings to discuss topics of concern.
  • Assists with recruiting, hiring and assigning of all campus coaches.
  • Maintains a personnel folder on each campus coaching staff member.
  • Organizes and assigns duties and responsibilities equitably, among the entire coaching staff.
  • Assures that all eligibility lists and participation reports are submitted on time.
  • Assist campus athletic trainer on athletic injuries and in administration of insurance.
  • Develop a consistent grade check system for the entire athletic program, informing athletes, parents, teachers, and administrators of the procedures.
  • Maintains, promotes, and encourages academic success among all students.
  • Provides required information and data to district UIL compliance officer and the Central Athletic Office.
  • Develop a written athletic policy for assigned campuses.
  • Work with feeder middle school athletic coordinators and coaches to develop a common philosophy of the total program.
  • Ensure all coaches and programs are UIL compliant at all times.
  • All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the assigned sport of football.
  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
  • Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.
  • Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on an ongoing basis.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuous evaluation of athletic program and make changes based on findings.
  • Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports on out-of-town trips.
  • Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
  • Monitor and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Encourage good sportsmanship in all phases of athletic participation.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets within program.
  • Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing campus athletic equipment.
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.

Salary: commensurate with education and experience

Selected individuals for Dallas Independent School District positions will be placed according to compensation guidelines. A campus-based employee may not assume a new position for which he/she was selected based upon the posting process until the end of the current semester, unless approved by the chief officer – Human Capital Management.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree, Master’s Degree preferred, from an accredited university in Physical Education, Sports Management or related field in public education; valid Texas Teacher Certification.
  • Coordinates, oversees, and manages all areas of the Athletic program in the assigned school for the District. Provides instructional leadership as well as manages the day-to-day activities in assigned schools.
  • Six years of directly related experience with athletic programs.
  • Must have experience or a desire to work in a major metropolitan school district.
  • General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules.
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student athletes.
  • Demonstrated ability to encourage athletes to participate in multiple sports.
  • Must possess problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively to community, media, and District personnel.
