Job summary

Oo1cl in Muncie, IN seeks an associate to assist the Lead Cook in preparing and cooking family style meals for children. You will follow menus, manage meal transport to offsite sites, and help maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment.

The role includes assisting in menu planning, managing supplies within monthly budgets, and supporting staff and guests with courtesy. Relevant training and Safe Serve knowledge are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; 1-3 months of related experience or training.
  • Knowledge of Safe Serve and Indiana childcare licensing requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions and memos.
  • Ability to manage budgets and kitchen operations within monthly guidelines.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Lead Cook,assist to prepare and cook family style meals for children by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Cooks food items in quantities according to menu and number of persons to be served
  2. Wash dishes
  3. Laundry duties
  4. Take out trash
  5. Assist lead cook in planning menu’s, taking advantage of foods in season and local availability
  6. Transport meals to offsite locations
  7. Manage offsite anti-hunger sites
  8. Assist in serving meals
  9. Orders supplies and keep records and accounts when needed
  10. To operate within monthly budget guidelines
  11. Maintain a safe environment at all times
  12. Present a professional manner through neat and clean appearance
  13. Keeps work area clean and orderly
  14. Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions
  15. Be friendly and courteous to fellow staff, members, and guests
  16. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of proper emergency procedures
  17. Any other duties assigned by lead cook/director of support services

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High school diploma or GED required;1-3 months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Knowledge of Safe Serve.
  3. Knowledge of Indiana Rules for Licensing Child Care Centers, NAEYC Accreditation, HEPA initiative.
  4. Minimum age of 21 and driving record in good standing.
  5. Requirements include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention; CPR; First Aid; AED; Blood borne Pathogens, physical, Drug Screen, and a variety of other development trainings.
  6. Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondences, and memos.
  7. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  8. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  9. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  10. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  11. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Also required is frequent hearing and talking, in person and on the telephone. Time is spent both indoors and outdoors. The condition of the air is normal/average air conditioned/ventilated. The noise level is normal to loud within an active YMCA program environment. Must have passed a physical examination conducted within the past 12 months prior to beginnning work.
