Job summary

SMBC Group is seeking an Associate Manager, Anti-Fraud Operations to lead daily fraud operations, coach a growing team, and enhance detection capabilities across Actimize, Mitek, and Risk Analytics. You will partner with Technology, Data Analytics, and Risk to implement improvements, govern procedures, and support regulatory exercises.

You will guide investigations, analyze trends, and deliver actionable insights to protect clients and the bank, while advancing governance and training programs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Criminal Justice, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • 3–5+ years in fraud operations, fraud risk management, or related discipline.
  • 4–6 years managing a team of 5+ employees.
  • Experience speaking with customers over the phone.
  • Experience with fraud detection and case management platforms (Actimize, Mitek, or similar).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to spot fraud patterns and propose solutions.
  • Experience developing training materials and coaching teams.
  • Knowledge of fraud risk management practices, regulatory requirements, and control frameworks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; cross-stakeholder collaboration.
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day Fraud Operations activities including detection, investigation, and escalation.
  • Coach and develop team members through training and ongoing support.
  • Monitor fraud trends, threats, and metrics to drive improved controls.
  • Assist in tuning and improving fraud detection platforms (Actimize, Mitek, Risk Analytics).
  • Collaborate with Technology, Data Analytics, and Risk teams to implement system enhancements.
  • Develop and maintain governance docs and reporting for audits and regulatory purposes.
  • Support model reviews, validation, and remediation of fraud controls.
  • Provide management reporting on fraud trends and KPIs.
  • Support regulatory examinations, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Foster continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Position Summary

SMBC is seeking a highly motivated Associate Manager, Anti-Fraud Operations to lead day-to-day fraud operations activities while supporting the administration, training, monitoring, and continuous enhancement of the Bank's fraud detection platforms, including Actimize, Mitek, and Risk Analytics solutions. This role will play a critical part in strengthening fraud detection strategies, maintaining governance and operational documentation, and driving continuous improvements to fraud monitoring capabilities. In addition to managing daily operations, this position will be responsible for coaching, training, and developing Fraud Operations team members to ensure consistent execution of fraud detection and investigation activities. The successful candidate will work closely with Fraud Operations, Technology, Data Analytics, Risk Management, Compliance, and Model Risk teams to protect the Bank and its clients from financial crime.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee day-to-day Fraud Operations activities, ensuring timely and effective fraud detection, investigation, and escalation.
  • Manage, coach, and develop team members through training, performance support, and ongoing knowledge sharing.
  • Monitor and analyze fraud trends, emerging threats, and operational metrics to identify opportunities for enhanced controls and detection strategies.
  • Support the administration, tuning, testing, and continuous improvement of fraud detection platforms, including Actimize, Mitek, and Risk Analytics tools.
  • Partner with Technology, Data Analytics, and Risk teams to implement system enhancements, optimize monitoring rules, and improve fraud detection effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain operational procedures, governance documentation, and reporting to support regulatory, audit, and risk management requirements.
  • Assist in model and strategy reviews, validation activities, and remediation efforts related to fraud detection controls.
  • Provide management reporting and insights on fraud trends, key performance indicators, and operational effectiveness.
  • Support regulatory examinations, internal audits, and risk assessments related to Fraud Operations.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Criminal Justice, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in fraud operations, fraud risk management, financial crimes, or a related discipline.
  • 4-6 years of experience managing a team of more than 5 employees.
  • Applicant will have experience speaking with customers over the phone.
  • Experience working with fraud detection and case management platforms, including Actimize, Mitek, or similar solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify fraud patterns and recommend effective solutions.
  • Experience developing training materials and coaching operational teams.
  • Knowledge of fraud risk management practices, regulatory requirements, and control frameworks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in banking or financial services.
  • Familiarity with data analytics, reporting tools, and fraud detection methodologies.
  • Experience supporting audits, regulatory examinations, or model governance activities.
  • Experience with NICE Actimize, Mitek Check Fraud solution or other fraud monitoring platforms.
  • Experience with SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or other analytics tools.
  • Knowledge of payment systems, fraud controls, and fraud detection methodologies.
  • Familiarity audit processes, and regulatory environments within the financial services industry.
  • Certifications: CAMS (Certified Anti‑Money Laundering Specialist) or CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner).
