Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

Teach college-level lecture and lab courses in Anthropology usingthe four-field approach, with primary responsibility for BiologicalAnthropology lectures and lab courses, including, but not limitedto, Introduction to Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, CulturalAnthropology, and Linguistic Anthropology courses to a diversestudent population.

Experience and/or training in collaboration in the developing,organizing, managing, and teaching the Biological Anthropology Lab,incorporating contemporary methods, techniques, andtechnologies.

Experience and/or training in teaching multiple modalities,including in-person, hybrid, and online/distance education classesas part of the regular contract as assigned.

Participate in curriculum development and serve on department,division, college and district committees as necessary to maintainand improve the instructional program; participate in appropriateprofessional development activities.

Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning,implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to supportstudent success.

Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle.

Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in departmentand division meetings.

Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and newtechnologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and applyemerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer softwareapplications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient,organized and timely manner.

Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned,including timely compliance with clerical and administrativeresponsibilities; comply with district, college and divisionpolicies in the performance of duties.

Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diversepopulation of students through careful preparation of coursematerials, effective teaching methodologies and informed criticalfeedback on assignments and discussions.

Develop culturally relevant course content, culturally responsivepedagogical techniques, and effective practices for engagingstudents who are diverse and/or are students who are historicallyunderserved. The ideal candidate should have experience in thisarea with African American, Latinx, Native Americans, PacificIslanders and other disproportionately impacted students.

Work cooperatively with staff and students.

Evening and/or weekend assignments may be required as part of theregular contract.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's in anthropology or archaeology

OR

Bachelor's in either of the above

AND

Master's in sociology, biological sciences, forensic sciences, genetics or paleontology

OR Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.

OR the equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Desirable Qualifications

Preferred graduate degree in Anthropology in thefour field approach, as evidenced by academic coursework and/ortraining in the four fields (cultural, biological/physical,linguistic/language and cultural, and archaeology). Evidenced byacademic coursework and/or training such as internships, fieldwork,etc.

Experience and/or training teaching biological anthropology lectureand lab and other relevant introductory courses inanthropology.

Experience designing and teaching curricula responsive to the needsof historically underrepresented and/or marginalizedstudents.

Evidence of participation in professional and pedagogical growth(ongoing education via coursework, conferences, lectures,etc.)

Demonstrated collaborative engagement as evidenced by participationin venues such as field trips, committee work, events, etc.

Demonstrated commitment to student centered learning, culturalunderstanding, and increasing student retention and success viaexperience, training, conferences, lectures, and coursework.

Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and effectively asa part of a team.

Demonstrated experience successfully teaching college levelanthropology courses.

Demonstrated competence, understanding, and assessment of thelatest technological advances, including Artificial Intelligenceand other computer/information programs through a commitment toprofessional development in Artificial Intelligence relevant topicsthrough trainings, conferences, certifications, etc.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Salary Range

$87,573 - $131,428 Annually

Initial salary placement will be determined by theOffice of Human Resources in accordance with the faculty collectivebargaining agreement and is not negotiable.
