Job summary

Fisica ATI, in San Leandro, CA, develops cutting edge pulsed power systems and high‑voltage components for defense and research applications. The Mechanical Assembly role focuses on fabricating, building and integrating complex parts for prototyping and low‑volume manufacturing, often to very tight tolerances.

Responsibilities include documenting results, following EH&S standards, and coordinating with engineering and QA.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with 8 years of relevant experience or 2 years post-secondary/associate’s degree with 4 years related experience.
• Ability to read operation sheets and complex blueprints; soldering skills required.
• Must be able to use measuring instruments and complex formulas/charts.

Responsibilities

• Document results and maintain records.
• Maintain EH&S compliance and report non-compliant issues.
• Perform complex mechanical assembly using blueprints and operation sheets.
• Use hand tools and epoxies for operations.
• Interface with engineering, QA, and test personnel for inspections.
• May perform remote testing preparation and support at site.
• Perform rework and adjustments as needed.
• Conduct pressure testing to locate leaks in subassemblies.
• May hand-solder and wire after certification.

Schedule:9/80:Employees work 9 out of every14 days - totaling 80 hours worked - and have every other Friday off.

Shift: 5am-2:30pm

Primary Function:

Responsible for fabricating, building, handling, repairing and integrating complex parts, assemblies and machines normally used in engineering prototypes, one of a kind product or low volume manufacturing. Provides highly skilled labor for extremely tight or critical tolerances. Hardware is fabricated and assembled using engineering standards and is oftentimes considered fragile, high precision, highly sensitive and of high value. May interface with engineers in prototyping and optimizing assembly processes and procedures for manufacturability. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. May require handling knowledge such as use of overhead cranes and equipment and rigging best practices. May design and fabricate manufacturing assembly aids and tooling. May lead and manage multiple builds and assemblies.

Major Responsibilities:

• Documents results, maintains records, and prepares reports.
• Maintain full compliance with respect to all EH&S and safety requirements. Advise technical lead and or management of any non-compliant issues immediately.
• Performs complex mechanical assembly work utilizing blueprints and operation sheets.
• Uses hand tools and various epoxies to perform operations.
• Interfaces with engineering, quality assurance, and test personnel to ensure subassemblies are inspected and tested at specified checkpoints.
• May perform duties relating to remote testing, including preparing and transporting product and assisting test site personnel.
• Performs rework and makes adjustments as required.
• Performs pressure testing to locate leaks in subassemblies.
• May perform hand soldering and wiring. (Once certified).
• Support repair of product at customer site as required.
• Must be able to identify, document, and incorporate with engineering any necessary changes on router and/or blueprints needed to improve or correct issues to insure a quality product to our customers.
• May perform tasks with engineering to aid in the designs and manufacturing of needed upgrades for tooling and/or assemblies necessary for the improvement of our products.

Education/Experience/Traininig:

Requires highly developed job knowledge/skills. Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-secondary/associate’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience and the ability to read operation sheets and complex blueprints. Also requires soldering skills, the ability to use measuring instruments and use of complex formulas, and charts.

Additional Requirements:

• Flexible to work varied shifts, overtime, weekends and travel on occasion.
• Must have good repetitive manual dexterity with both hands.
• Must have sufficient vision to see relative positions of small parts and able to discern symmetry and proper alignment.
• Based upon the job duties, and need to visit different areas within the company, you may be exposed to; fumes, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals (well below OSHA and ACGIH exposure guidelines), outdoor weather, moving mechanical parts and/or be part of a hearing conservation program due to noise levels around certain equipment.
• Able to stoop, bend, kneel, and squat for extended periods of time.
• Able to push and reach for extended periods of time.
• Able to work in confined space areas for extended periods of time.
• Able to lift 25 pounds close to the body repetitively. (Employees need to ask for assistance and use material handling tools for lesser weight in awkward location and/or body positions and for any items over 50 pounds).
• Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary. Must be able to pass a respirator medical physical. May not have facial hair and be clean shaven per California and Federal OSHA requirements to ensure a proper fit of respiratory protection.
• Work at heights up to 30 feet after training. Wearing fall protection above 30 inches utilizing existing fall protection.
• Must have a valid CA Driver’s License.
• Operate overhead crane, lifts & rigging after training.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a future Security Clearance is required for the role. Eligibility requires U.S. citizenship.
