Job summary

Leidos is seeking an Alternate McMurdo Winter Site Manager to deploy to McMurdo Station, Antarctica for 7-8 months, serving as the senior site lead during the austral winter if the Primary Winter Site Manager cannot deploy.

The role requires deployment Feb through Oct, completion of NSF-required medical exams, US citizenship, and a Public Trust security clearance that can take up to four months. The position involves 24/7 readiness and close coordination with NSF, ASC, and station services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related discipline with 10+ years of professional experience.
• Additional experience in lieu of degree will be considered.
• Leadership experience must include the demonstrated ability to work with and independently manage a diverse, skilled workforce.

Responsibilities

• Deploy to McMurdo Station for the Austral Winter season (Feb 15–Oct 10) and act as acting Area Manager as needed.
• Reports to the McMurdo Area Manager and may serve as Acting Area Manager.
• Ensure the Annual Program Plan and station activities are completed and communicate concerns or obstacles as needed.
• Be available 24/7 while deployed to respond to emergencies, personnel issues or incidents.
• ASC Emergency Manager for McMurdo; advise EOC Director and ASC Emergency Manager during emergencies; manage EOC personnel and training.
• Ensure reporting to NSF representatives, ASC management, and subcontractor PMs.
• Work with Environmental Health and Safety to improve safety culture and maintain a safe working environment.
• Ensure compliance with the Antarctic Treaty, the Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty, and related legislation.
• Identify and manage risk and opportunities for McMurdo; monitor progress and resolve resource conflicts.
• Serve as lead ASC representative during deployment; coordinate with NSF representatives and other agencies.
• Support supervisors, managers, and SMEs in communicating with station stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Leidos HR on personnel issues; oversee disciplinary actions.
• Communicate program changes and priorities to the McMurdo Community.
• Support Performance Management Teams and Area Excellence planning; participate in meetings as needed.
• Oversee alcohol policy on station with Station Services leadership.
• Uphold standard operating procedures and handle confidential matters per policy.
