Flying Bark Productions is seeking an Animation Director for our Burbank studio to lead the creative execution of animation across production, ensuring character performance, timing, and staging align with the vision.

The role works with the internal leadership team and external vendor studio to communicate intent, provide feedback, and maintain high-quality animation across sequences and episodes. Location is onsite in Burbank, CA.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience on animated series or features.
• Experience as Animation Director or Lead Animator is required.
• Strong understanding of animation principles, character acting, timing, and storytelling.
• Proficiency with industry-standard tools (Adobe Animate, Toon Boom Harmony, Maya, SyncSketch, ShotGrid).
• Ability to give clear, constructive feedback and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Support the creative execution of animation under the Supervising Animation Director.
• Translate animation direction into actionable guidance for animators.
• Review animation work and provide notes on performance, timing, and staging.
• Collaborate with vendor studio leadership to guide character performances and storytelling.
• Identify and resolve animation issues with the team to ensure consistency across sequences.
• Maintain animation standards and communicate requirements to cross-functional teams.
• Participate in reviews and production meetings to ensure quality control.
