Job summary

Disney Television Animation in Glendale, CA, seeks a Character Design Lead to partner with the Executive Producer, Art Director, and Production team to execute the creative vision and maintain a consistent style across episodes.

The role requires 5–7 years in artistic animation production, strong leadership, and expertise in character design, turnarounds, expression sheets, and collaboration with overseas vendors. On-site responsibilities and a dynamic team environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience.
• 5–7 years of experience in artistic animation production.
• Experience leading a team.
• Ability to design and create characters, turnarounds, mouth charts and expression sheets.
• Experience working with oversees vendor studios.
• Knowledge of drawing software including Photoshop, Illustrator, Harmony and 3D technology.
• Ability to align with the style and sensibility of the show.
• Strong leadership and collaboration with Creatives and Executives.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Art Director to review scripts and storyboards for character design in each episode.
• Flag complexity issues as they arise.
• Set the visual style of the series in collaboration with Exec Producer and Art Director, creating conceptual and production artwork.
• Ensure high quality and style established by leadership is achieved and maintained.
• Develop the look, personality and feel of characters to advance storytelling.
• Capture the personality and life of a character through design and attire.
• Create turnarounds, poses, mouth charts and expression sheets; provide clean final designs.
• May oversee the Character Design team, delegating work and monitoring schedules for consistency.
• Communicate and problem-solve with vendor animation studios.
