Job summary

Maricopa County Animal Care & Control is seeking a volunteer manager to guide the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the volunteer program. This hands-on leadership role will recruit, engage, develop, and retain volunteers while ensuring a high-quality experience across shelters.

You will collaborate with shelter teams, supervise Volunteer Coordinators, and remove barriers to improve outcomes for animals.

Qualifications

• Three years of direct volunteer management experience.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Develop and refine the volunteer program for Animal Care & Control.
• Provide hands-on leadership and coaching to staff and volunteers.
• Lead improvements and initiatives with the Animal Welfare Officer.
• Uphold shelter policies and humane care during events.
• Develop and oversee a volunteer recognition program.
• Provide timely operational reports to the Animal Welfare Officer.
• Coordinate off-site recruitment events and corporate volunteer opportunities.
• Meet with division managers to plan volunteer needs and assignments.
• Maintain volunteer database and publish reports and newsletters.
• Represent the department at community events and projects.
