Job summary

Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA) in Washington, DC, is seeking a Full-time Animal Control/Law Enforcement role to enforce cruelty codes, investigate neglect, impound animals, and provide care at facilities. You will collect evidence, coordinate veterinary care, testify in court, and work with local law enforcement.

The role requires two years in animal welfare or related fields, a valid driver’s license, ability to lift 50 lbs, and willingness to work nights/weekends. Comprehensive benefits offered.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of experience in animal control, welfare, law enforcement, or humane investigations.
  • Must successfully complete HRA basic training.
  • Valid driver's license with clean record.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces DC animal cruelty code and ensures care of animals.
  • Investigates complaints and coordinates impoundment and prosecutions as needed.
  • Collects evidence, statements, photos, and physical evidence.
  • Coordinates veterinary exams for treated or seized animals.
  • Provide daily care to animals housed in offices.
  • Draft affidavits for arrest/search warrants; testify in court.
  • Prepare impound and hearing letters; manage digital archives.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and community groups.
  • Work rotating on-call schedule, nights and weekends.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and adapt to shifting priorities.
