Job summary

Humane Rescue Alliance in Washington, DC, seeks a Behavior & Enrichment Lead to guide and implement animal behavior initiatives, ensuring safe, humane care and successful placements. You will provide behavior support, training resources, and consultations to staff, volunteers, fosters, and community members, with a focus on reducing returns and relinquishments.

Qualifications

Strong knowledge of canine and feline behavior and enrichment.
Experience with force-free, science-based behavior modification.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including documentation.

Responsibilities

Represent HRA professionally to the public, volunteers, and staff.
Supervise and delegate animal care tasks following SOPs and best practices.
Maintain euthanasia lists and scheduling in a timely manner.
Provide behavior support, training resources, and consultations to reduce returns.
Conduct intake interviews for canines and felines with behavior concerns.
Coach and train staff and volunteers through onboarding and development.
Develop and lead advanced volunteer training programs and protocols.
Design and provide enrichment and behavioral interventions for shelter animals.
Lead daily enrichment programs and assess outcomes in a force-free, evidence-based framework.
