Job summary

Scripps Research in La Jolla, CA is seeking an Animal Technician II to support our biomedical facilities. You will care for rodents, maintain records, perform basic treatments under veterinary staff direction, and ensure compliance with biosafety and animal-care protocols.

The role requires a high school diploma, 3+ years of animal care experience, and willingness to participate in weekend/holiday rotations. Competitive pay from $22 to $26 per hour plus comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
• Minimum three years animal care experience; substitutions allowed for degrees/certs.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal relation skills; competency in technical procedures.

Responsibilities

• Transfer animals to clean caging with proper feed, water and bedding.
• Maintain animal records and conduct daily health observations.
• Identify sick animals and report conditions under vet staff direction.
• Perform beard/ear tagging, cage sanitation and equipment maintenance.
• Possibly perform basic procedures and routine injections as trained.
• Assist health-monitoring programs and follow biohazard regulations.
