Job summary

Planet Pharma in Athens, GA, seeks a Laboratory Animal Care Technician to perform daily animal husbandry and health observations under SOPs and welfare guidelines.

You will document care activities, assist with necropsies when needed, and support a busy research team in a BSL-1/2 environment, complying with NIH, AAALAC, and company policies.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with animals preferred.
  • Ability to accurately complete documentation and follow SOPs.
  • Ability to recognize and communicate animal health concerns.
  • Comfortable working in a research environment and assisting with scientific procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily animal care and health observations.
  • Document care activities and maintain accurate records.
  • Ensure facility sanitation and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with animal handling and sample collection as needed.
  • Support necropsies and related procedures when required.
  • Contribute to on-site committees and workgroups.

Job description

Performs animal husbandry and health care in accordance with study protocols, Animal Welfare Act regulations, NIH guidelines, AAALAC accreditation requirements, and company policies. Responsible for daily animal care, health observations, documentation, facility sanitation, equipment maintenance, animal handling, sample collection, scientific procedures, and assisting with necropsies. Works in a laboratory animal research environment under Biosafety Level 1 and 2 conditions. May provide guidance to junior team members and participate on site committees and workgroups.

Skills
  • Experience working with animals preferred
  • Animal husbandry, livestock, veterinary technician, or laboratory animal experience preferred
  • Ability to accurately complete documentation and follow SOPs
  • Ability to recognize and communicate animal health concerns
  • Comfortable working in a research environment and assisting with scientific procedures
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs occasionally and 50 lbs frequently
  • Must be able to work in hot, cold, humid, noisy, and physically demanding environments
  • Must not have allergies to animals or livestock/feed dust
Education

High School Diploma or GED required

Max Pay Rate: 20/hr
