Position Summary

The Animal Technician plays a critical role in maintaining the health, welfare, and well‑being of non‑human primates in our care. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about animal care and want to grow their career in a mission‑driven organization. Under direct supervision, the technician will perform daily husbandry, health observations, enrichment activities, and cleaning tasks to ensure a high standard of animal welfare.

The chosen candidate must agree to a background screening prior to engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor animal health and welfare through daily observations and accurate recordkeeping
• Perform daily husbandry tasks, including feeding, watering, cage cleaning, and enrichment delivery
• Clean and maintain indoor and outdoor enclosures using hoses and pressure washers
• Assist in handling and movement of animals as needed
• Maintain areas of primate enclosures, including removal of debris and general cleanliness
• Identify and report abnormal behaviors or signs of injury and illness immediately
• Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and biosecurity guidelines
• Use cleaning chemicals safely and according to instructions
• Assist with receiving, inspecting, and housing incoming animals
• Keep records of husbandry tasks and temperature logs accurately and consistently
• Communicate issues or questions promptly to supervisors or veterinary staff
• Be available to work rotating weekends, holidays, or alternate shifts (e.g., Tuesday–Saturday)
• Perform other duties as assigned

Experience / Qualifications

• Experience working with animals in a farm, veterinary, or laboratory setting
• Familiarity with pressure washing equipment and basic mechanical troubleshooting
• Prior exposure to non‑human primates is a plus but not required
• High school diploma or GED
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
• Detail‑oriented with good observation and recordkeeping skills
• Strong work ethic, team‑oriented mindset, and ability to work independently
• Willingness to work with non‑human primates and follow strict animal welfare protocols
• Ability to work in PPE, including use of N95s, is required when actively providing care for NHPs
• Ability to work in warm environments
• Experience processing NHPs for health diagnostics is highly desirable
