Job summary

County of Culpeper operates the Animal Shelter and is seeking a supervisor to lead the administrative and shelter staff and provide compassionate care for animals. The role includes coordinating daily activities, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supporting community outreach as needed.

The candidate will supervise animal care, administer medications, handle adoptions, and maintain records. Strong leadership, teamwork, and willingness to obtain required certifications are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required with 4 years of professional animal care experience.
• At least 6 months of supervisory experience preferred.
• Animal control training and basic law enforcement background preferred.
• Must possess and maintain Virginia driver’s license.
• Must be bondable and able to obtain euthanasia and firearms certifications.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily workflow of administrative and shelter staff.
• Coordinate work schedules and assign tasks.
• Assist with compliance with codes, laws, and procedures.
• Care for animals: feed, medicate, vaccinate, bathe, and maintain cages.
• Oversee animal adoptions and shelter operations.
• Maintain records and process paperwork for shelter duties.
• Perform duties related to animal euthanasia as directed.
