Job summary

Jackson County ARC in North Carolina seeks an intermediate, semi-skilled worker to perform animal care and cleaning within the shelter and related facilities. The position operates under the regular supervision of the Animal Control Supervisor.

Weekend work is essential in this role. The candidate should have a high school diploma or equivalent and be prepared to learn sanitization procedures, animal handling, and public communication while supporting animal control operations and public

Qualifications

• Knowledge of small animal care and behavior.
• Knowledge of how diseases and contaminants spread and how to contain an outbreak of illness.
• Knowledge of cleaning agents and chemicals.
• Skill in handling animals; skill in cleaning and general custodial duties.
• Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with the public.
• Ability to read, comprehend and follow written instructions

Responsibilities

• Feeds, waters and provides basic care for animals in the shelter.
• Follows a sanitation schedule each day and uses the proper chemicals and techniques to effectively clean and sanitize the animals' kennels and enclosures in the shelter.
• Maintains organization of equipment and supplies in the feed room, wash room, and kennels.
• Provides educational information to the general public regarding animals adopted from the ARC.
• Observes the condition of animals in the shelter and reports suspected illness or injuries of animals to the supervisor.
• Assists the Animal Control Officers when needed with handling and restraint of animals for vaccinations.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
