Job summary

Sigma Inc. is seeking an Animal Research Technician in Athens, GA for a 12-month assignment. The role involves animal husbandry, health care per protocols, and on-site support.

Responsibilities include daily animal care, health observations, documentation, sample collection, and assistance with necropsies in a Biosafety Level 1–2 environment. Some weekend hours and holiday work may be required.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• Experience working with animals preferred.
• Animal husbandry and laboratory animal experience preferred.
• Ability to accurately complete documentation and follow SOPs.
• Ability to lift up to 70 lbs occasionally and 50 lbs frequently.
• Must be able to work in hot, cold, humid, noisy and physically demanding environments.
• Must not have allergies to animals or livestock/feed dust.

• Responsible for daily animal care, health observations, documentation, facility sanitation, equipment maintenance, animal handling, sample collection, scientific procedures, and assisting with necropsies.
• Works in a laboratory animal research environment under Biosafety Level 1 and 2 conditions; may guide junior team members and participate in committees/workgroups.

Sigma Inc is currently looking for an Animal Research Technician

Work schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-4.30pm (at least 40 hrs./week – This position will work weekend hours at least once a month – it would also be possible to work holidays & other times during the week if available.

weekend OT required once a month

As vacancies become available, there will be a possibility of the assignment to be converted to a full-time role

Responsibilities:

• Performs animal husbandry and health care in accordance with study protocols, Animal Welfare Act regulations, NIH guidelines, AAALAC accreditation requirements, and Boehringer Ingelheim policies.
• Responsible for daily animal care, health observations, documentation, facility sanitation, equipment maintenance, animal handling, sample collection, scientific procedures, and assisting with necropsies.
• Works in a laboratory animal research environment under Biosafety Level 1 and 2 conditions. May provide guidance to junior team members and participate on site committees and workgroups.

Requirements:

• HS Diploma or GED

• Animal husbandry, livestock, veterinary technician, or laboratory animal experience preferred
• Ability to accurately complete documentation and follow SOPs
• Ability to recognize and communicate animal health concernsComfortable working in a research environment and assisting with scientific procedures
