Job description

We are seeking a hands-on Rescue Manager to oversee the daily care of animals and support the ongoing operations of a private rescue environment. This role is ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys working directly with animals and is equally comfortable managing the practical responsibilities that keep a rescue property safe, clean, organized, and running smoothly.

The Rescue Manager will be actively involved in animal care each day while coordinating routines, monitoring animal health and behavior, maintaining supplies and spaces, and helping oversee the property. This is not a desk-based management position. The right person will be comfortable jumping in wherever needed and taking ownership of the day-to-day needs of both the animals and the rescue.

What You'll Do
  • Oversee daily care routines, including feeding, grooming, exercise, enrichment, and general animal wellbeing
  • Monitor animals for changes in health, temperament, or behavior and upscale concerns when appropriate
  • Administer routine medications and coordinate veterinary appointments and follow-up care
  • Reinforce basic training, appropriate handling, and positive behaviors
  • Maintain organized inventories of food, medications, cleaning products, and animal-care supplies
  • Ensure kennels, animal areas, and shared spaces are consistently clean, sanitary, and well maintained
  • Manage routine laundry, cleaning, and organization associated with animal care
  • Perform basic property and equipment upkeep and coordinate larger maintenance or repair needs
  • Monitor outdoor areas, yards, gates, and fencing to identify potential safety or maintenance concerns
  • Prepare animal areas for severe weather or changing conditions and ensure appropriate safety measures are in place
  • Transport animals to veterinary appointments, pickups, or other locations as needed
  • Communicate and coordinate with veterinary providers, rescue organizations, and other animal-care partners
  • Assist with scheduling and providing direction to volunteers or additional support staff
  • Help prioritize daily responsibilities and ensure care standards and established routines are consistently followed
  • Respond calmly and appropriately when unexpected animal-care or property needs arise
What We're Looking For
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1–3 years of relevant animal care, rescue, shelter, kennel, veterinary, ranch, or related experience; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Experience safely handling animals with different personalities, needs, and temperaments
  • Genuine commitment to animal care and welfare
  • Hands‑on, dependable approach and willingness to assist with tasks at all levels
  • Ability to independently manage daily routines and recognize when something requires additional attention
  • Strong organizational and practical problem‑solving skills
  • Clear communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, vendors, and animal-care professionals
  • Ability to remain composed and make sound decisions in urgent or unexpected situations
  • Willingness to work outdoors and perform the physical responsibilities associated with animal and property care
  • Valid in-state driver's license and ability to transport animals as needed
The Ideal Fit

You are someone who notices when an animal is behaving differently, when supplies are running low, or when a gate needs attention before it becomes a larger issue. You enjoy being active, take pride in maintaining a high standard of care, and are comfortable balancing animal care with the practical needs of running a rescue property. Most importantly, you are dependable, observant, compassionate, and willing to step in wherever the day requires.
