Job summary

The City of Navasota is seeking an Animal Control Officer to protect residents from stray and vicious animals, operate the animal control center, and maintain records and reports.

You will respond to emergencies, investigate bites, manage adoptions, and ensure compliance with state laws and city ordinances.

Required are a high school diploma, Texas Basic Animal Control Certification, a valid Texas driver’s license, and the ability to obtain certification; bilingual skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with ability to obtain Basic Animal Control Certification.
• Ability to obtain Basic Animal Control Certification by Texas Department of Health.
• Valid Texas driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Maintain animal holding facility, grounds, vehicle, and equipment in compliance with regulations.
• Remove, impound, manage, and care for stray and unwanted animals.
• Patrol for stray or dangerous animals and respond to citizen complaints.
• Respond to emergencies including cruelty, bites, and dangerous animals.
• Investigate bite reports, issue citations, and document calls and reports.
• Maintain stock of food and supplies; prepare animals for rabies testing and transport.
• Manage adoptions and participate in adoption events.
• Speak to grade school students about animal care.
• Other related duties as assigned.
