Job summary

Gfoat is seeking an Animal Services Officer to protect public health by responding to animal-related issues and enforcing laws. Duties include responding to complaints, capturing stray animals, removing dead animals, and testifying in court when required.

Pay ranges from $24.74 to $32.56 per hour (GG15; starting GG15 Step 3), equating to $51,468–$67,740 annually. A high school diploma is required; bilingual English/Spanish is beneficial.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• No prior experience needed, but related experience and bilingual skills are beneficial.
• Must have basic computer knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Office; possess or obtain a Texas Class C license; Animal Control Officer, euthanasia and bite stick certifications.

Responsibilities

• Respond to animal-related issues and enforce local/state laws.
• Capture stray or loose animals and care for captured animals.
• Remove dead animals and assist in shelter operations.
• Answer and dispatch calls; participate in dispatch duty rotation.
• Testify in court when required and assist in on-call rotations.

Job description

Animal Services Officers provide information and resources to help people and animals. Duties include protecting public health and safety by responding to and investigating animal related issues and enforcing local and state laws related to animals. Duties also include responding to complaints reported by the public; capturing stray or loose animals; removing dead animals; investigating biting incidents; issuing warnings and citations for animal control ordinance violations; caring for captured animals; cleaning animal shelter facilities and vehicles; euthanizing animals; testifying in court when required; answering and dispatching calls; and participating in a dispatch duty rotation.

PAY GRADE GG15 / FULL PAY RANGE $24.74 - $32.56 PER HOUR ($51,468 - $67,740 ANNUALLY)

A high school diploma or equivalent required. No experience necessary but prior relevant experience and bilingual (English / Spanish) skills beneficial. Must have basic computer knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Office products; and have, or be able to obtain within specified timeframe, a valid Class C Texas driver’s license, and Animal Control Officer, euthanasia and bite stick certifications. Schedule will include some weekend and evening hours, including participation in the on-call rotation; must be available for callback in emergency situations and be able to adhere to a maximum one hour emergency response time. Starting pay for this position is at least Pay Grade GG15 Step 3, $24.74 per hour.
