Job summary

The City of Broken Arrow is seeking a dedicated Animal Control Officer to enforce animal control ordinances and manage the city animal shelter. Under general supervision, you will respond to bite and stray animal reports, transport animals to the shelter, assist public with adoptions, and conduct welfare checks on animals and equipment.

The role involves safety-sensitive duties, after-hours calls, and potential field work; a high school diploma or GED and valid driver's license are required,

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by 1-2 years of related experience.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License.
• National Animal Control Association Certification preferred.
• Oklahoma State Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Responds to animal bite reports; records victim information; transports animal to shelter.
• Responds to wild or stray animal reports; captures and transports animals to shelter.
• Responds to complaints and questions from the general public.
• Assists citizens with setting traps for wild animals; transfers animals from traps to carriers.
• Euthanizes animals.
• Maintains assigned vehicle and equipment.
• Assists Police Officer on calls involving animals.
• Patrols the city; captures stray animals for transport to shelter.
• Investigates reports of animal cruelty; issues citations and removes animals as appropriate.
• Investigates barking dog complaints.
• Assists the public in the adoption of animals; assists owners in locating pets at shelter.
• Verifies sick animals see the Veterinarian and administers medications prescribed.
• Administer vaccinations to new intake animals.
• Collects shelter donations.
• Cleans and maintains the animal shelter.
• Quarantines animals as necessary.
• Feeds and waters animals.
• Responds to after-hours calls.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

This position performs duties deemed to be "safety-sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City's policies.

Requirements

Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by one to two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of National Animal Control Association Certification and Oklahoma State Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Certification preferred.

Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort in medium work, typically involving some combination of balancing, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 50 pounds).
