Job summary

Township of Woodbridge seeks an Animal Control Officer to patrol streets, capture and impound stray animals and unlicensed dogs, and respond to wildlife concerns. Under direction, you will humanely handle, care for, and, when necessary, destroy rabid or severely injured animals and coordinate with veterinarians.

You will maintain the public pound, observe animal condition, enforce rabies control ordinances, and respond to complaints.

Qualifications

• Certified Animal Control Officer License is required.
• Valid NJ Driver License is required.

Responsibilities

• Patrol streets, capture and impound stray animals and unlicensed dogs.
• Contact veterinarians when necessary and liaise with animal care providers.
• Use nets, traps, or tranquilizer equipment to capture animals.
• Care for impounded animals and observe their physical condition and behavior.
• Destroy rabid animals humanely and dispose of remains.
• Enforce rabies control programs and issue summons for violations.
• Handle complaints regarding wild, stray, and domesticated animals.
• Maintain and clean the impounding facility.

Job description

Under direction, handles, captures and, when necessary, humanely destroys wild and strayed domesticated animals and birds; cares for impounded animals; cleans and maintains the impounding facility; may take the lead over one or more Assistant Animal Control Officers; does other related work.

• Patrols the streets, captures and impounds stray animals, wild game, birds, and unlicensed dogs.
• Contacts veterinarian when necessary.
• Uses nets, traps, or tranquilizer gun to capture wild animals or strayed domesticated pets.
• Captures and impounds animals suspected of being rabid and observes their physical condition.
• Cares for and feeds animals in the public pound and observes their physical condition and behavior.
• Destroys rabid animals in a humane way and takes their remains to State Health Clinic for analysis.
• Handles complaints regarding wild and stray animals, and licensed and unlicensed domesticated animals.
• Enforces the rabies control program and issues summons for violations of local or state animal control ordinances.
