Job summary

JBS USA seeks an Animal Care Technician to join our Colorado swine operation. You will learn and develop skills in sow care, feeding, and moving pigs, while working in a cohesive team to ensure animal welfare and biosecurity compliance. Training includes 100% supervision for the first 30 days, with progression review at 90 days.

Applicants should hold a B.S. in Animal Science or equivalent, be proficient with MS Office/Excel, and possess a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of MS Office including MS Excel is helpful.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of sow farm management, swine welfare, biosecurity/health management, and safety/environmental practices.

Responsibilities

• Learn and develop individual skills based on work requirements in the designated work area.
• Work in a team environment to provide essential care to the animals.
• Perform basic sow/gilt handling: feeding, watering, moving; assist with farrowing and breeding.
• Operate machinery and equipment; vaccinate and medicate sows and piglets.
• Adhere to biosecurity standards; maintain farm cleanliness; load/unload pigs as scheduled.

• Work in a cohesive team environment to provide essential care to the animals.
• Expect 100% supervision for the first 30 days of employment followed. Determination of Animal Care Technician 2 to be made at 90 days of employment.
• Basic sow/gilt handling: feeding/watering/moving.
• Operating machinery and equipment.
• Assisting with farrowing (birth).
• Assist with breeding (artificial insemination).
• Handling and using chemicals.
• Vaccinating and medicating sows and piglets.
• Ability to use computer equipment: hand held devices and electronic wands.
• Loading and unloading pigs as scheduled.
• Adhere to all biosecurity standards including showering in and out of facilities.
