Job summary

City of Irving's Animal Services seeks a dedicated animal care technician to clean enclosures, assist with adoptions, handle, vaccinate, and care for animals. Duties include records, customer service, and occasional euthanasia certification within six months. High school diploma required; no prior experience necessary though bilingual (English/Spanish) helps.

Typical schedule is five eight-hour days, 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Pay starts at GG09 Step 3, $18.17/hour.

Qualifications

• Must obtain euthanasia certification within six months from date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Clean animal enclosures and maintain animal shelter facilities, grounds and the incinerator.
• Care for, feed, restrain and vaccinate animals; administer medication and draw blood for health checks.
• Answer telephone and assist customers in person and by email.
• Process adoptions, transfers, reclaims and city registrations.
• Maintain daily/monthly records and enter data in a specialized database system.
• Perform euthanasia as required.
