Job summary

Yale University is seeking an experienced Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician to perform skilled husbandry and specialized services for animal colonies at the Yale Animal Resources Center – Operations. The role requires housing animals correctly, observing conditions, and working weekends with a Friday–Tuesday 7am–3pm schedule on-site.

The position requires passing the YARC health screening, lifting up to 50 pounds, and following SOPs and detailed protocols.

Qualifications

• Four years of work experience, or two years with an Associate's Degree, or an equivalent combination.
• Must Pass YARC Health Screening.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and good manual dexterity.
• General knowledge of computer use and ability to monitor email.

Responsibilities

• Observe and evaluate animals for signs of illness and stress.
• Feed, house and handle animals per regulations.
• Provide animal care with veterinary oversight which may include drug administration and sample collection.
• Maintain records of treatments and husbandry services.
• Maintain and sanitize animal rooms and facilities (BL2 level is mentioned).
• Assist in euthanasia of rodents and non-rodent species as needed.
• Train staff on sanitation, handling, and care techniques.
• Operate animal care processing equipment and diagnose problems.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and may drive to transport animals/materials.
