Responsibilities

Job description

Colleton County Government is accepting applications from qualified individuals for the position of Animal Care Technician. The successful candidate will, under general supervision, be responsible for carrying out the duties associated with the health and wellbeing of all animals in the care of Colleton County Animal Services. Job duties include but are not limited to medical assessment and care of pets including cleaning and feeding, giving medications and vaccines, running routine diagnostic tests, record keeping for medical exams and procedures, carrying out changes to housing assignments, assisting with surgeries and other procedures, communicating with appropriate staff about behavioral and physical health concerns, making sure all healthy pets are promoted on adoption or rescue sites, evaluating pet behavior, working with potential adopters on pet introductions through the adoption process and assisting with tasks related to transferring pets to other rescue and shelter organizations.

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and must be proficient with technology. Must possess great interpersonal skills as well as animal handling skills. Must be available to work weekends and holidays. Pre-employment drug screen and a satisfactory background check also required.
