Job summary

The Orange County Animal Services Department is hiring two Animal Care Technicians to care for animals in the shelter and assist the public.

Positions operate under the Animal Care Supervisor with some independent judgment within rules, regulations, and procedures. Bilingual applicants are encouraged.

This is a safety-sensitive position requiring background check, drug screen, and fitness test. Employment cannot commence until clearance is obtained.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required, plus six months direct animal care experience.
• Customer service experience in an animal care setting.
• Higher degrees do not substitute for work experience.

Job description

The Orange County Animal Services Department has 2 openings for an Animal Care Technicians (ACT).

The work involves performing skilled work in caring for the animals in the animal shelter and providing customer service to the public.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Animal Care Supervisor with some leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties. Supervision or leading others may be a responsibility of this class depending on the assignment. Does related work as required.

This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required. Fitness for Duty Assessment required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from High School or General Educational Development (GED) test equivalency AND six (6) months of direct experience in providing direct animal care in a professional setting such as a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, boarding facility or farm, AND customer service experience in providing customer service in an animal care setting.

A higher degree does not substitute for work experience.
