Position Overview

The Operations Leader - Animal Care promotes and ensures the efficient and effective operations of the Companion Animal Department, driving sales of aquatic pets, reptiles, birds, and small companion animals. This leader will coach and mentor Pet Care Center partners, support guest experience and animal care, and manage team performance to meet sales, gross margin, and animal and merchandise shrink targets. Additionally, they will oversee all aspects of Pet Care Center operations in line with Petco standards and safety procedures.

Position Responsibilities

• Use business acumen to analyze trends and implement improvement plans.
• Ensure the health and well-being of live animals following Petco standards and policies.
• Adhere to Veterinary Protocols for all sick animals.
• Process transactions to enhance guest experience.
• Support guest interactions with product knowledge and selling strategies.
• Implement and coach on Companion Animal Operations and Aquatics, including regulatory compliance and vendor relationships.
• Order live animals efficiently to maximize sales and inventory management.
• Maintain operational standards and animal-related maintenance tasks.
• Achieve presentation standards in aquatics and companion animal areas.
• Partner with Merchandising leadership to ensure proper stock levels.
• Handle and document all adoption animals properly.
• Use sales and margin reports for business insights.
• Lead, coach, and provide feedback to team members to ensure high-quality service.
• Manage partner scheduling to meet in-stock and guest service goals during peak hours.
• Recruit, hire, train, and develop team members, including succession planning.
• Provide excellent guest service and product recommendations throughout the store.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent; college courses preferred.
• Minimum 1 year management experience; 2+ years preferred.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Proficiency in communication, organizational, and computer skills.
• Strong guest service, analysis, and problem-solving skills.

Supervisory Responsibility

This leader supervises Operations Specialists and Senior Aquatics Specialists and supports store operations as a Leader on Duty.

Work Environment

This role requires support during key hours, including weekends. Most duties are indoors, but some physical activity and travel are involved.

Contacts

This position involves regular contact with the public, other departments, and external vendors to coordinate various activities and initiatives.
