Position Overview

The Operations Leader - Animal Care promotes and ensures the efficient and effective operations of the Companion Animal Department and drives sales of aquatic pets, reptiles, birds, and small companion animals. This role involves coaching and mentoring Pet Care Center partners, supporting guest experience and animal care, and leading a high-performing team to meet sales, gross margin, and animal and merchandise shrink targets. The leader will also support managing all aspects of the Pet Care Center's business in line with Petco standards and safety procedures.

Position Responsibilities
  • Utilize business acumen to analyze trends and implement improvement plans.
  • Ensure the health and well-being of live animals according to Petco standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Adhere to Veterinary Protocols for all sick animals.
  • Process transactions to enhance guest experience.
  • Support guest interactions and sales strategies.
  • Implement and execute Companion Animal Operations and Aquatics through training and coaching.
  • Order live animals efficiently to maximize sales and inventory management.
  • Maintain operational standards and animal-related maintenance tasks.
  • Achieve presentation standards in aquatics and companion animal areas.
  • Partner with merchandising leadership to ensure proper stock levels.
  • Handle and document all Adoption Animals properly.
  • Analyze sales and margin reports to inform business decisions.
  • Lead, coach, and provide feedback to PCC partners to ensure quality service.
  • Manage partner scheduling to meet in-stock and guest service goals during peak times.
  • Engage in talent management activities including recruiting, hiring, training, and succession planning.
  • Provide excellent service by understanding guest needs and sharing product knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Strong guest service, problem-solving, and people development skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise Operations Specialists & Senior Aquatics Specialists; support Pet Care Center operations and safety.

Work Environment

Support during key hours, including weekends. Indoor work with occasional physical tasks. Some travel may be required.

Contacts

Regular contact with guests, team members, vendors, and external partners to coordinate various activities and events.
