Job summary

Petco is seeking a Companion Animal Supervisor to oversee the health, care, and presentation of live animals in the Companion Animal and Aquatics departments, while driving sales and ensuring outstanding customer experiences.

You will coach team members, maintain safety and compliance, monitor inventory and adoption processes, and partner with store leadership to deliver exceptional care and operational excellence every day.

Qualifications

Companion Animal Supervisor – Responsible for the health, care, and presentation of live animals while driving sales, customer experience, and operational excellence within the Companion Animal and Aquatics departments.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well‑being of all live animals through strict adherence to Petco standards, policies, and veterinary protocols.
  • Perform hourly animal health checks, wellness cards, and required documentation.
  • Handle, care, and document adoption animals properly.
  • Act immediately for sick or injured animals in line with veterinary protocols.
  • Coach and mentor partners to deliver confident, compassionate, and knowledgeable customer interactions.
  • Create a welcoming, engaging environment with high presentation standards.
  • Promote teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration.
  • Model Petco’s selling behaviors and customer service expectations.
  • Drive Companion Animal and Aquatics sales, margin, and shrink performance through disciplined execution.
  • Analyze trends, identify opportunities, and implement improvement plans.
  • Balance animal welfare, inventory, sales, and margin when ordering live animals.
  • Support Omni‑Channel execution (BOPUS, ship‑from‑store, curbside, endless aisle).
  • Serve as Leader on Duty, supporting Pet Care Center operations, communication, safety, and compliance.
  • Execute Companion Animal and Aquatics operations (animal care, maintenance, ordering, regulatory compliance).
  • Ensure all maintenance tasks (CAPI, HAHC, CAPC, etc.) are completed.
  • Maintain operational, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Deliver efficient transactions and great customer experience.
  • Monitor sales, margin, and inventory reports.
  • Share product and animal care knowledge with customers.
  • Assist with additional duties as needed.
  • Train, coach, and develop partners.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and support to strengthen partner performance.

  • Animals are healthy, safe, and cared for to Petco’s highest standards.
  • Customers trust the team’s expertise and return for guidance.
  • The Companion Animal department meets or exceeds sales, margin, and shrink goals.

Qualifications
  • High school Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1+ year of supervisory experience, preferably in a pet retail environment.
  • Strong knowledge of companion animals, aquatics, and animal care practices.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • High focus on customer service and people development.
Essential Functions & Work Environment
  • Primarily performed in a Pet Care Center retail environment.
  • Regular presence on the sales floor, engaging with partners, customers, and pets.
  • Majority of work is conducted indoors; occasional duties may require leaving the Pet Care Center for bank deposits, merchandise transport, or community events.
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift and move merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular customer engagement, including cashiering and point‑of‑sale transactions.
  • Must be able to work in proximity to animals, including exposure to dander, odors, noises, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Flexible availability to support Pet Care Center operating hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Full‑time position. Eligibility for full‑time status is based on average hours worked and applicable law.
  • Limited travel may be required for training, meetings, or community engagement.

Salary Range

$21.50 - $33.50
