Job summary

Schwartz Farms, Inc. is seeking an Animal Care Specialist to support breeding, farrowing or wean-finish teams. You will help care for animals, vaccinate when needed, and keep accurate records, all while promoting a safe, clean environment.

Weekend rotations may be included, with a focus on teamwork and animal welfare. Demonstrated ability to lift up to 50 lbs and follow bio-security policies is required. Weekdays available preferred; opportunity to contribute to a family-owned rural pork

Qualifications

• Experience caring for breeding, farrowing or wean-finish animals.
• Comfort lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Ability to follow bio-security policies and procedures.
• Strong teamwork and willingness to adopt new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Provide care for animals with access to food, water and a comfortable environment.
• Assist with movement of animals within facilities.
• Treat and vaccinate animals as directed.
• Maintain accurate documentation of activities and observations.
• Assist in power washing and maintaining clean work areas.
• Promote a safe work environment and follow safety rules.
• Maintain PQA certification status (provided on the job).
• Adhere to Schwartz Farms' animal welfare policy and reporting procedures.
• Be available for Weekdays (Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri) shifts.

POSITION OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE:

The Animal Care Specialist is responsible for providing support to breeding, farrowing or wean-finish teams. Work with your manager on establishing a schedule and weekend rotations will be included.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Tasks are dependent upon the department, but may include:

• Provide care for animals, ensuring they have access to food, water and a comfortable environment
• Assist with m movement of animals
• Treat and vaccinate animals
• Maintain accurate documentation
• Assist in power washing
• Promote a safe work environment
• Maintain PQA certification status (provided on the job)
• Follow all SFI bio-security policies and procedures
• Exhibit strong teamwork, including working to achieve team goals, embracing new technologies, working on new projects, etc.
• Be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. with reasonable accommodation

• Advocate and engage in SFI's animal welfare policy, including promoting animal well-being, remedying circumstances which impede animal care, and properly reporting instances of mistreatment or abuse

• Availability Weekdays Preferred Monday, Tuesdays, Thursday & Fridays
