Humane Society of North Texas is seeking an Animal Care Specialist to care for animals in the shelter, monitor health, and maintain cleanliness and organization. The role involves public interaction, enforcing animal care standards, and supporting training activities for dogs.

You will work with dogs and other animals, reporting issues to management, and ensuring the safety and welfare of animals, staff, and visitors in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Care for, feed, and monitor animals in the shelter.
  • Report health or behavior issues to supervisor.
  • Clean assigned areas daily following SOPs.
  • Provide information about HSNT programs to the public.
  • Walk dogs daily in all weather conditions.
  • Train dogs with leash and behavior guidance from specialists.
  • Represent HSNT with excellent customer service.

About Humane Society of North Texas

Founded in 1905, the Humane Society of North Texas is the oldest animal welfare organization in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. HSNT serves animals in need by providing services such as pet adoptions, spay/neuter surgeries and low-cost vaccinations, returning lost pets to their owners, cruelty investigations and humane euthanasia. We operate two pet adoption centers in Tarrant County as well as PetSmart and PetCo Cat Adoption Centers and an equine ranch located in Johnson County.

What you'll do
  • Care for, feed, and monitor animals in the shelter
  • Report observed health or behavior issues to department Assistant Manager/Manager
  • Clean assigned areas daily in compliance with standard operating procedures
  • Provide information to the public about Humane Society of North Texas programs and promote good animal care and responsible pet ownership
  • Keep current inventory
  • Maintain assigned equipment, supplies and vehicles in safe condition and report any problems or needed repairs to the department Assistant Manager/Manager
  • Represent the Humane Society of North Texas by providing excellent customer service
  • Protect the confidential information on customers and donors
  • Walk dogs daily in all weather conditions
  • Ability to deal with fractious animals
  • Work with dogs on training, such as leash training and behavioral training based on recommendations from the behaviorist and trainers
  • Additional tasks assigned by department Assistant Manager/Manager
  • Ability to meet physical demands
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience with animals
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively
  • Knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information on paper and computerized format
  • Ability to work under stressful circumstances
  • Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions, and animal handling and behavior
  • Self-motivated, works effectively under pressure and has the ability to multi-task
  • Works collaboratively with all departments within the organization
  • Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures
  • Ability to represent the Humane Society of North Texas in a professional manner
  • Must be able to deal with fractious animals
  • Will be subject to exposure of animal odors, extreme levels of ammonia, diseases, possible contagious conditions, bites, scratches, animal waste and moderate noise levels
  • Must support the mission and values of HSNT

  • While performing the duties of this job this position may be exposed to animal odors or airborne particles
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

The pay range for this role is: 14.50 - 14.50 USD per hour(HSNT)
