Job summary

HCFL is seeking an Animal Care Assistant for the Pet Resource Center to support the health, care, and sustenance of shelter animals. The role involves feeding, cleaning, enrichment, and basic veterinary care under supervision, with daily observations and record-keeping in shelter software.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of animal care experience, and a valid Florida Class E driver's license.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED.
• One year of animal care experience.
• Valid Florida Driver License (Class E).
• FACA Euthanasia Certification within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide for the basic needs of the pets in the care and custody of the Pet Resource Center (PRC) including feeding, cleaning, exercise, enrichment, and basic care.
• Performs daily observation and triage of pets and reports changes to staff with accurate records in the shelter software.
• Assist potential adopters, foster caregivers, and rescues; facilitate meet-and-greet sessions and explain basic veterinary care.
• Performs euthanasia in accordance with state laws and maintains records and drug administration details.
• Maintain shelter tags, cages, and inventory; ensure sanitary environment through cleaning and restocking.
