Job summary

Macomb County is seeking a Kennel Attendant to care for animals at the Animal Control facility. The role includes medical assistance, behavioral monitoring, and maintaining a clean environment for all animals.

Responsibilities include administering medications, performing lab tests, counseling adopters, and ensuring health records are up to date. The position requires weekend/holiday availability and long 10-hour shifts starting at 7:00 a.m.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate’s degree in animal-care related field preferred.
• Previous kennel attendant or veterinary assistant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cares for all animals in the facility.
• Performs daily kennel and public area cleaning following disease-control protocols.
• Administers medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by a veterinarian.
• Conducts lab tests and records results; draws blood for analysis.
• Counsels adopters on adoptable pets; educates public on animal care.
• Euthanizes animals and prepares them for rabies testing.
