Job summary

The Veterinary Service Center at Stanford University seeks an Animal Care Assistant I to perform routine custodial care of animals and equipment in a dedicated research environment. The role involves following SOPs for sanitation, handling animals, and maintaining records, with a Monday–Friday schedule and potential overtime based on needs.

Minimum education is a High School Diploma or GED. Strong English communication and ability to lift up to 50 lbs are required, with safety and health

Qualifications

  • Must read, write, understand and follow written and oral instructions in English.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with team members and have good communication skills.
  • Basic desktop computer skills and familiarity with handheld devices (e.g., iPad).

Responsibilities

  • Sanitize and/or sterilize animal care equipment according to SOPs.
  • Maintain inventory records and standard forms as required.
  • Transport animals, equipment, and supplies within facilities.
  • Organize and stage clean cage sets and assemble clean cage setups.
  • Disassemble dirty cages and prepare for disposal or recycling.
  • Provide basic care and husbandry for various animal species, including feeding and cleaning cages.
  • Check for signs of illness or death and report findings.
  • Take animal census and record births and deaths.
