Job Overview

The Medical Director shall supervise and direct all anesthesia activities and operations of the Anesthesia Department at Piedmont Macon, GA. Responsibilities include developing treatment protocols, ensuring quality control of anesthesia services, supervising staff, and collaborating with hospital administration and medical staff to ensure efficient and compliant anesthesia services.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide clinical oversight and serve as a consultant on anesthesia-related issues.
  2. Oversee training, competencies, and performance of department staff.
  3. Establish control, monitoring, and reporting mechanisms for the department.
  4. Act as an educational resource for the hospital.
  5. Develop staff coverage schedules and participate in medical and administrative committees.
  6. Supervise support staff and ensure proper infrastructure for APPs providing anesthesia services.
  7. Ensure department meets performance standards and collaborates on operational, quality, and regulatory issues.
  8. Assist in strategic planning, budgeting, and policy development.
  9. Oversee surgical program evaluation and staffing schedules for 24/7 coverage.
  10. Support recruitment, training, and evaluation of staff and credentialed medical staff.
  11. Manage financial performance and resource utilization.
  12. Stay current with developments in anesthesia and participate in professional activities.
  13. Develop communication strategies and provide feedback on anesthesia services.
  14. Participate in hospital governance councils and trauma planning activities.
  15. Manage the OR schedule and oversee the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit.
  16. Review adverse events related to anesthesia and ensure compliance with perioperative policies.
