Job description

The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Minnesota is seeking a full-time board-certified/eligible Obstetric Anesthesiologist. This position is at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank on an academic or master clinician track.

The University of Minnesota was one of only 39 institutions awarded the 'Center of Excellence' for obstetric anesthesia by the Society of Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) in 2019. This designation reflects excellence in clinical practice, ongoing education, and proposed practice improvements in obstetric anesthesiology.

About the Appointment:

1. This role involves clinical duties at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN, with an association to a Level IV NICU at University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital.
2. The division emphasizes a Family Centered Cesarean Model, handling approximately 2500 deliveries annually, many of which are high risk.
3. Responsibilities include clinical services in inpatient and outpatient settings, teaching medical students and residents, and covering general OR cases.
4. Academic faculty are expected to engage in national organizations and foster an academic environment for learners and colleagues.
5. Proven experience in teaching and scholarly productivity in anesthesiology is desired.
6. The position involves working with high-quality residents during the week and includes a 12-hour in-house call schedule.

About the Division:

The Obstetric Division provides analgesia and anesthesia for labor, delivery, and postoperative pain management, offering various techniques including epidural, spinal, and TAP blocks. The division actively participates in clinical research and is committed to patient-centered, family-friendly care, emphasizing pain relief, safety, and compassion.

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an ACGME-accredited anesthesiology residency and/or fellowship.
• Board certified or eligible with the American Board of Anesthesiology.
• Licensed or eligible for Minnesota Medical Practice Licensure.
• Ability to obtain/maintain DEA certification in Minnesota.
• Meet credentialing and privileges criteria.
• Eligible to work in the U.S. with proper visa status.
• SOAP membership.
• Experience with TAP blocks.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Patient-focused, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and creative problem-solver.

Pay and Benefits:

The total annual compensation ranges from $420,000 to $575,000, based on experience and effort, including base salary and incentives. Benefits include substantial 401K contributions, well-being programs, CME allowances, malpractice insurance, and eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.
