Job description

As a Cardiac Pediatric Anesthesiologist Assistant, you will assist attending anesthesiologists in administering and monitoring anesthesia for pediatric surgical patients, primarily under 18 years old, including those with congenital heart disease. You will collaborate with the anesthesiology team and other healthcare professionals to develop tailored care plans, prepare, administer anesthetic agents, monitor vital signs, adjust anesthesia levels during procedures, and manage any complications that arise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer prescribed anesthesia under the direction of an anesthesiologist.
  • Obtain extensive pre-anesthetic history and perform pre-anesthetic physical examinations; order pre-operative evaluations and pre-medications after consultation with the anesthesiologist.
  • Establish multi-parameter monitoring before anesthesia and in acute care settings, including ASA Standard Monitors, arterial and venous catheters, and other devices.
  • Perform starting and advancing CPR/ACLS in emergencies until an anesthesiologist is available.
  • Utilize advanced modalities such as airway interventions, intubation, vasoactive infusions, blood administration, and other treatments as directed.
  • Assist in postoperative care, managing ventilator support and acute pain control under existing protocols.
  • Participate in teaching and research functions as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Certification and Skills
  • Skilled in state-of-the-art patient monitoring within anesthesia care environments.
  • Experienced with handling biohazardous, chemical, and radiological materials while following required safety training and engineering controls.
  • Certified Anesthesiology Assistant (CAA) by the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants (NCCAA).
Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree and completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)-accredited two-year Anesthesia Assistant program. No prior experience required.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive Position

This position is security-sensitive under Texas Education Code §51.215 and Texas Government Code §§411.094, 117.001(2). The role requires research, work, or access to critical infrastructure and may involve maintaining security or integrity of infrastructure. Candidates may be subject to routine background checks to ensure compliance with federal and state security requirements.

Residency Requirement

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
