Job summary

Nemours Children's Health in Jacksonville, FL is seeking a full-time Anesthesiologist Assistant to join our pediatric team. New graduates are welcome; we provide a supportive environment to grow in the pediatric world.

Under the direction of an anesthesiologist, our CAAs administer anesthesia, conduct pre-anesthetic assessments, monitor during procedures, and provide post-anesthesia care in a 100% pediatric setting.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree required; Master's preferred in Anesthesiology Assistant program.
• Certification: NBCRNA or predecessor with biannual recertification.
• Current BLS, PALS and ACLS certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Perform individualized pre-anesthetic assessments including history, physical, and diagnostic studies.
• Select, obtain, and administer pre-anesthetic medications and fluids; obtain informed consent.
• Monitor patient status with appropriate non-invasive and invasive techniques throughout perioperative care.
• Facilitate emergence and recovery with medications, fluids, and ventilation support.
• Discharge and provide post-anesthesia care as appropriate.
• Respond to emergencies with airway management and ACLS-level care.
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists to monitor quality of care and participate in QA/PI activities.
• Adhere to Joint Commission and AANA guidelines.

What does our job look like?

In collaboration with and under the direction of an Anesthesiologist, our CAAs & CRNAs administer anesthesia to patients as a qualified member of the anesthesia care team. We work in a collegial work environment with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other APPs. We offer 100% pediatric care and the ability to be a part of diverse cases.

• Performs an individualized pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient to include review of consultations, history and physical, and relevant diagnostic studies; Selects, obtains, orders, and administers pre-anesthetic medications and fluid; obtains informed consent for anesthesia
• Selects, applies and insets appropriate non-invasive and invasive monitoring modalities for continuous evaluation of the patient’s physical status throughout the perioperative experience
• Facilitates emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting, obtaining, ordering and administering medications, fluids and ventilation support
• Discharges patients from the post-anesthesia care area and provides post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care as appropriate
• Responds to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids and medications using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques
• In collaboration with the anesthesiologists, monitors and evaluates quality of patient care and participates in department quality assurance and performance improvement activities
• Practices within regulatory requirements as defined by Joint Commission, American Society of Anesthesia Position Statements, and ACHA

What you need to get started!

• Graduate from an accredited Anesthesiology Assistant program
• Current Certification from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists or it predecessor with biannual recertification required
• AHA BLS, PALS and ACLS required
