Job summary

Nemours seeks a full-time Anesthesiologist Assistant to join the Jacksonville, Florida pediatric team, supporting anesthesia care under an anesthesiologist. The role emphasizes 100% pediatric cases and collaborative practice in a teaching-forward environment.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited Anesthesiology Assistant program.
  • Current Certification from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists or its predecessor with biannual recertification required.
  • AHA BLS, PALS and ACLS required.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with and under the direction of an Anesthesiologist, administer anesthesia as a qualified member of the anesthesia care team.
  • Perform individualized pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation including history, exams, and relevant diagnostics; obtain informed consent for anesthesia.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient status with non-invasive and invasive modalities throughout the perioperative period.
  • Facilitate emergence and recovery by managing medications, fluids and ventilation support.
  • Discharge patients from post-anesthesia care and provide follow-up care as appropriate.
  • Respond to emergencies with airway management and ACLS as needed.
  • Contribute to quality assurance and ongoing performance improvement initiatives.

What does our job look like?

In collaboration with and under the direction of an Anesthesiologist, our CAAs & CRNAs administer anesthesia to patients as a qualified member of the anesthesia care team. We work in a collegial work environment with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other APPs. We offer 100% pediatric care and the ability to be a part of diverse cases.

  • Performs an individualized pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient to include review of consultations, history and physical, and relevant diagnostic studies; Selects, obtains, orders, and administers pre-anesthetic medications and fluid; obtains informed consent for anesthesia
  • Selects, applies and insets appropriate non-invasive and invasive monitoring modalities for continuous evaluation of the patient’s physical status throughout the perioperative experience
  • Facilitates emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting, obtaining, ordering and administering medications, fluids and ventilation support
  • Discharges patients from the post-anesthesia care area and provides post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care as appropriate
  • Responds to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids and medications using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques
  • In collaboration with the anesthesiologists, monitors and evaluates quality of patient care and participates in department quality assurance and performance improvement activities
  • Practices within regulatory requirements as defined by Joint Commission, American Society of Anesthesia Position Statements, and ACHA
