Job summary

Shriners Children’s Northern California is actively seeking a board-certified/eligible Pediatric Anesthesiologist to join our all-physician anesthesia group. You will provide comprehensive anesthesia care for infants, children, and adolescents, with opportunities to develop regional anesthesia expertise within a strong program.

The position offers a Monday–Friday schedule with limited after-hours cases, a focus on clinical excellence, research, and resident training in a premier pediatric

Qualifications

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
• Board certification or eligibility in Anesthesiology with subspecialty in Pediatric Anesthesiology (ABA).
• Eligibility for active and unrestricted medical licensure in the practicing state.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers and PALS certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-anesthesia evaluations and develop individualized pediatric anesthetic care plans.
• Administer general, regional, or monitored anesthesia care for pediatric patients.
• Monitor vitals and anesthetic depth throughout induction, maintenance, and emergence.
• Manage airway techniques appropriate for pediatric patients, including advanced techniques.
• Respond to intraoperative complications and emergencies with timely interventions.
• Collaborate with surgeons, pediatricians, nurses, and staff to coordinate care.
• Provide postoperative pain management and regional anesthesia where appropriate.
• Document assessments and procedures in the EHR per hospital standards.
• Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and departmental protocols.
• Contribute to training and supervision of residents, fellows, or students.

Job Description

Join our expanding team at Shriners Children’s Northern California as a Pediatric Anesthesiologist and play a crucial role in providing exceptional care for infants, children, and adolescents. As the largest Shriners Hospital in North America, we specialize in treating complex orthopedic disorders, cleft lip/palate surgery, burn injuries, and pediatric surgery.

We're seeking a board-certified/eligible Pediatric Anesthesiologist to join our all-physician anesthesia group dedicated to clinical excellence, research, and resident training. You'll have the opportunity to develop expertise in regional anesthesia within our robust program and collaborate with highly skilled Pediatric Regional Anesthesiologists.

Enjoy a Monday to Friday schedule with rare evening and weekend cases, with call taken from home and a minimal call-back rate.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform pre-anesthesia evaluations and develop individualized anesthetic care plans for pediatric patients.
• Administer general, regional, or monitored anesthesia care to pediatric patients across a range of surgical and non-surgical settings.
• Monitor patient vital signs, anesthetic depth, and physiologic parameters throughout perioperative phases, including induction, maintenance, and emergence.
• Manage airway techniques appropriate for pediatric patients, including advanced airway management and ventilation strategies.
• Respond to intraoperative complications and perioperative emergencies, initiating appropriate interventions as required.
• Collaborate with surgeons, proceduralists, pediatricians, nurses, and other allied health professionals to coordinate care delivery.
• Provide postoperative pain management and follow-up, including regional anesthesia and sedation recovery monitoring.
• Document all assessments, procedures, and interventions in the electronic health record in compliance with regulatory and institutional standards.
• Participate in departmental quality improvement, safety initiatives, clinical protocol development, and peer review processes.
• May contribute to the training and supervision of residents, fellows, or students as part of academic responsibilities.
• Maintain accountability for meeting established productivity benchmarks (e.g. wRVUS), quality metrics, and institutional performance standards
• Ensure time is allocated in accordance with assigned clinical, surgical, administrative, and academic expectations.

Required Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
• Completion of an ACGME accredited residency in Anesthesiology
• Completion of fellowship training in Pediatric Anesthesiology
• Board certification or eligibility in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA), with subspecialty certification in Pediatric Anesthesiology
• Must possess eligibility for active and unrestricted medical licensure in the state of practice
• Must possess eligibility for active DEA
• Must possess Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS for HCP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Credentialing and privileging by the medical staff in accordance with hospital bylaws
• In-depth understanding of pediatric physiology, pharmacology, and anesthesia-specific considerations in neonates through adolescents.
• Competency in administering a broad range of anesthetic techniques appropriate for pediatric populations.
• Proficiency in advanced airway management, vascular access, and resuscitative techniques in pediatric patients.
• Familiarity with anesthesia equipment, monitoring devices, and safety protocols.
• Ability to work effectively in high-acuity, time-sensitive environments, including emergency and trauma settings.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills with multidisciplinary care providers and patient families.
• Compliance with documentation standards, clinical policies, and regulatory guidelines.
