ANESTHESIOLOGIST

SITE OF SERVICE:

·New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS) – Albuquerque, NM

·Full Time

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

·Education: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada.

·Accreditation: Degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges: Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

·Internship/Residency: Successful completion of residency program through one of the following:

  1. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
  2. The Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association.

·Certification: Board Certified /Board Eligible in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA).

·Cardiac Certifications: Must have the following hands-on certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross:

  1. Basic Life Support (BLS)
  2. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

·Experience: As required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the Service-specific credentialing instructions.

·Licensure:

  1. Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as an Anesthesiologist in any one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  2. Possess a current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
  3. Registration certificate National Provider Identifier (NPI).

·Liability Insurance: The Federal Tort Claims Act does not cover Contractor or Contractor’s physician(s). When a Contractor or Contractor’s physician(s) has been identified as a provider in a tort claim, the Contractor shall be responsible for notifying their legal counsel and/or insurance carrier.

·U.S. Citizenship: Shall be a U.S. citizen.

·English Language Requirement: Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.

·Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.

DUTIES:

  1. Administers anesthesiology services to surgical and clinic patients.
  2. Provide comprehensive clinical anesthesiology services including patients undergoing cardiac surgery, orthopedic joint replacement, and major vascular, thoracic, neurosurgical, plastic, ENT, urologic and ophthalmologic operations.
  3. Provide clinical care of patients undergoing electroconvulsive therapy and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, electrophysiology, gastrointestinal and radiological suites.
  4. Provide primary coverage for all patients in the surgical intensive care, short stay unit, acute and chronic pain management services, diagnostic transesophageal echocardiography for medical and surgical patients, and emergency airway management.
  5. Provide consultative services at the patient’s bedside if the patient is not ambulatory and in the clinic setting if the patient is able to report to the outpatient clinic.
  6. Provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all Anesthesiology clinical or surgical patients.

HOURS:

Monday through Thursday 06:30-1500 and Friday 07:30-1630. May require in-hour and night shift on occasion.

Base Bown Days:

During a planned closure of the facility due to training, closures before or after holidays family down days, Employee will only be compensated for the actual hours worked. If clinic is closed and employee is not able to work, employee will be required to use leave or take LWOP (without penalty).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Teamwork skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline-intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
