Job summary

The Supervisory Medical Instrument Technician (Anesthesia) at the VA Portland Health Care System provides the full range of supervisory duties for Anesthesia Technicians, with independent judgment and accountability to the Chief of Anesthesiology Service.

Duties include supervising staff at GS-649 levels, handling labor-management actions, scheduling, training, workload balancing, and ensuring safe operation of anesthesia equipment. Work schedule is Mon-Fri 8:00am-4:30pm PST with on-call time.

Qualifications

• Holds supervisory authority over Anesthesia Technicians, with independent judgment in a hospital setting.
• Experience supervising staff and coordinating workflow in an anesthesia services department.

Responsibilities

• Supervises Anesthesia Techs at GS-649-6/7/8/9 levels and oversees day-to-day operations in the Operative Care Division.
• Manages labor relations, leave approvals, discipline, performance appraisals, and staff training.
• Ensures safe operation of anesthesia equipment, systems, and supplies and coordinates with other hospital services.
