Job summary

OakLeaf Surgical Hospital is seeking an Anesthesia Technician to support anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists in delivering anesthesia care. You will prepare and maintain anesthesia equipment, ensure a sterile environment, and assist with patient monitoring before, during, and after procedures.

Qualifications

• Must have eligibility for employment in the U.S.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two-year degree from an accredited college or technical school preferred.
• BLS certification required on hire.
• Previous hospital experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and check equipment prior to procedures for proper functioning.
• Stock and prepare medications, fluids, and anesthesia supplies.
• Assist during induction, maintenance, and emergent phases of anesthesia.
• Maintain aseptic and sterile techniques when handling equipment.
• Monitor equipment, troubleshoot, calibrate, and report malfunctions.
• Decontaminate, sterilize, and store reusable equipment after procedures.
• Move anesthesia carts, machines, and monitoring equipment between rooms.
• Track stock levels, reorder items, and rotate stock to prevent expiration.
• Position patients for procedures to ensure safety and access for anesthesia.
• Provide support during anesthesia-related emergencies and code situations.
• Assist with room turnover and area cleanup between cases.
• Participate in on-call rotation and respond to call-ins as needed.
• Report safety concerns or incidents per policies; use secure messaging as required.

Job description

The Anesthesia Technician will support anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists in the delivery of anesthesia care. The technician will be responsible for preparing and maintaining anesthesia equipment and supplies, ensuring a sterile environment, and assisting in patient monitoring before, during, and after procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

• Assemble and check all equipment and machines prior to procedures to ensure proper functioning
• Stock and prepare medications, fluids, and anesthesia-related supplies needed for procedures
• Assist anesthesiologist and nurse anesthetists during induction, spinals, maintenance, and emergent phase of anesthesia
• Ensure the maintenance of aseptic and sterile techniques when handling equipment and supplies
• Monitor equipment functionality, troubleshoot, calibrate, and maintain anesthesia equipment and report malfunctions promptly
• Decontaminate, sterilize, and properly store reusable equipment and tools after procedures
• Move anesthesia carts, machines, and monitoring equipment to different operating rooms as needed
• Track supply levels, reorder items, and rotate stock to avoid expiration
• Support staff in properly positioning patients for procedures to ensure safety and optimal access for anesthesia deliver
• Provide immediate support during code situations or anesthesia-related emergencies by preparing necessary equipment
• Assist with cleanup of the anesthesia work area and turnover of rooms between cases
• Participate in the department’s on-call rotation and respond promptly to call-ins to ensure continuous patient care and surgical support as needed
• Promptly report and document any occurrences of unusual events, safety concerns, or incidents in accordance with organization policies and procedures
• Use the organization's secure messaging platform in accordance with departmental protocols, including timely receipt and responses to communications
• Perform other duties as assigned
