Own the Android client for a product where AI is the core experience, not a feature bolted on afterwards.
The Opportunity
Our client is rebuilding the everyday apps billions of people rely on (email, notes, tasks, calendar) as AI-native products that do the work without the user having to master prompts. They are a well-funded AI applications company, backed by an established technology company in Southeast Asia and building for a global market. The Android engineer owns how that intelligence feels, behaves and performs on mobile. The client is explicit that this is not a thin-client job: AI interactions sit at the center of the app, so performance, reliability and clarity are the work.
Role Snapshot
- Location: United States, United Kingdom, Europe (Ireland, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland) or Asia (Singapore, South Korea, Indonesia, China)
- Work Model: Remote in most locations; hybrid in the UK, Zurich and Seoul
- Employment Type: Full-time
- Compensation: Competitive, shared on intro call
- Team: Engineering, mobile
What You’ll Own
- Build and maintain production Android apps in Kotlin, on a stack of Kotlin/Java, SQL and NoSQL, and TensorFlow Lite for on-device inference.
- Integrate AI-powered features (chat, vision, voice, recommendations) through backend APIs.
- Design the UX patterns for AI interactions, including streaming responses, retries and partial results.
- Optimize performance, memory usage and responsiveness in AI-heavy flows.
- Implement the analytics, logging and feedback capture that feed AI evaluation and iteration.
- Shape API contracts and system behavior alongside backend and ML engineers.
- Keep the app stable, secure and scalable in production.
What You Bring
- 3+ years of Android development experience using Kotlin.
- Hands-on experience integrating AI features such as LLM, vision or speech APIs.
- A strong understanding of asynchronous programming (Coroutines, Flow).
- Familiarity with REST or gRPC APIs and structured data formats.
- Strong debugging and performance profiling skills.
- Comfort building where latency, partial failure and non-deterministic behavior are normal.
- Experience with MLKit or light on-device inference.
- Published production apps on the Google Play Store.
Why This Role
- AI is the product, so the mobile client carries real weight in how users experience it.
- A small, hands-on team with a high bar, where engineers bring their own structure and judgment and execute independently.
- Clear success measures: stable, responsive, low-latency apps, with production issues caught early and root-caused properly.
- A short hiring process: three to four interviews, assessed by engineers, with a prompt decision.
Not the Right Fit If
- You want a thin-client role that wires screens to an API and stops there.
- You need deterministic systems. AI output here is streamed, partial and sometimes wrong, and the app has to handle that gracefully.
- You prefer heavy process to a small team that decides and ships quickly.
