Android AOSP engineer will design, implement, integrate, and optimize Android AOSP software stack for the PAC Seat Box. The engineer will translate in-flight entertainment (IFE) use cases into robust platform capabilities across the Android framework, native services, hardware abstraction layers, display and media paths, and system observability. This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership and requires close collaboration across internal product, architecture, applications, multimedia, validation, security, BSP, QNX/Linux, and hardware teams, as well as external chipset and technology partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and productize multi-display support for single- and multi-VM configurations, including display discovery, runtime configuration, display identifiers, mode and resolution handling, content placement, focus, lifecycle, and recovery.
- Work across WindowManager, DisplayManager, SurfaceFlinger, Hardware Composer/Composer HAL, graphics allocation, input routing, and vendor display stacks.
- Partner with chipset, BSP, QNX/Linux, monitor, cabling, and applications teams to validate end-to-end display paths and resolve boot, restart, hot-plug, rendering, and performance issues.
- Deliver production-quality code with unit, integration, compatibility, stress, and system-level validation appropriate to the change.
- Contribute to CI/CD, reproducible builds, branch and release management, automated testing, static analysis, code-quality gates, and release readiness.
- Create traceability from requirements and designs through implementation, test evidence, defects, and operational metrics.
- Participate in feature planning, estimation, risk management, defect triage, lab bring-up, system demonstrations, and release support.
Mandatory Skills:
- Extensive professional experience developing and debugging Android platform software, with strong hands‑on experience in AOSP framework and native layers.
- Strong C/C++ and Java or Kotlin skills; proficiency with Android build systems, Linux development environments, Git, shell scripting, and Python
- Deep knowledge of Android architecture, including system services, Binder/AIDL, HALs, init, SELinux, permissions, process lifecycle, memory management, graphics/display, input, media, and power or thermal behavior.
- Experience integrating Android with vendor BSPs, kernel drivers, SoC platforms, hardware peripherals, or virtualized systems.
- Demonstrated ability to profile and optimize complex embedded or resource‑constrained systems using quantitative evidence.
- Experience designing telemetry or observability for embedded platforms, including structured logging, metrics, tracing, crash/ANR analysis, and health monitoring.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills for working with distributed teams, product and system stakeholders, and external vendors.
- Experience with Android Automotive OS or adapting automotive‑oriented Android components for non‑automotive embedded use cases
- Experience with Qualcomm Snapdragon platforms, vendor Android forks, GPU/media acceleration, display pipelines, memory carve‑outs, and chipset‑vendor debugging workflows.
- Experience with hypervisors and multi‑VM systems, including Android guests interacting with QNX or Linux management domains through VirtIO or custom IPC.
- Knowledge of IFE systems, seat‑end architectures, aircraft offerability, secure media playback, Widevine/DRM, audio/video pipelines, and passenger‑facing reliability expectations.
- Experience with SurfaceFlinger, WindowManager, DisplayManager, Hardware Composer, Gralloc, Codec2/MediaCodec, AudioFlinger/Audio HAL, input, lights, thermal, and power HALs.
- Familiarity with Android compatibility and security validation such as CTS/VTS, SELinux policy, verified boot, secure update, and vulnerability remediation
Skills:
- 10+ years of experience in embedded software development.
- Experience with infotainment systems based on Qualcomm SoCs.
- Familiarity with QNX Hypervisor.
- Understanding of TCP/IP and HTTP/HTTPS protocols.
- Familiarity with wireless technologies (Bluetooth, WiFi), satellite connectivity solutions.
