Job description

My client, a large chemical company, is currently seeking multiple I&E Technicians in Carson, California.

The Instrument and Electrical (I&E) Technician will interface with maintenance, engineering, and manufacturing resources to resolve, improve, and implement maintenance activities in a safe, responsible, and environmentally sound manner, in compliance with all regulatory requirements. The technician will support daily operations, meet schedule requirements, and pursue personal development and continuous improvement. Work quality and performance must be maintained at a high level, with all jobs completed, documented, and verified as satisfactory.

Regular Work Schedule: 4 – 10 Hour Days per Week, Overtime as Required

Major Responsibilities

The I&E Technician monitors, troubleshoots, and services 120V up to 4kV field equipment and instrumentation (motors, sensing devices, control valves, and other control loop components). They must follow all safety and security guidelines according to company policy.

Required Qualifications:
  • 8 Years of age with a high school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a California State Approved Program or equivalent
  • Completion of a two-year associate degree in instrumentation or related field, plus at least 3 years of experience, or at least 5 years of experience
  • Must possess or obtain a TWIC card prior to first day of employment
  • Valid U.S. driver's license
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
  • Skills and training related to life-critical processes: LOTO, system and process openings, working at heights, hot work, confined space entry, energized electrical work

Must have a good working knowledge of:

  • Digital, electronic, pneumatic instrumentation and controls, troubleshooting techniques
  • Motors, power/control circuits, troubleshooting techniques
  • Smart transmitters and field devices (e.g., Emerson, communicators)
  • Schematics, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, logic diagrams, blueprints, PID drawings
  • Distributed control systems (Siemens, Honeywell)
  • PLCs (e.g., Allen Bradley)
  • Area and personnel atmospheric monitors (MSA, General Monitors)
  • Basic MS Office programs: Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Strong communication skills, troubleshooting, maintenance, self-initiated learning, time management, corrective actions

Must maintain:

  • Professional relationships internally and externally
  • Orderliness in stressful/emergency situations
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Work outdoors year-round in various weather conditions; site operates 24/7
  • Climb scaffolds, towers, vessels; work at heights
  • Lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • Work in confined spaces and from elevated platforms
  • Wear protective equipment: FRC, safety shoes, hard hat, hearing/eye protection, respiratory gear, chemical suits, gloves
  • Participate in respiratory fit testing
  • Basic computer skills required
Sensory and Cognitive Requirements:
  • Visual, auditory, color vision, fine motor skills, odor detection
  • Measure and convert units, analyze data, develop plans, generate reports, follow instructions
