Job description

Medical Instrument Technician (Polysomnography)

This position is located within the Sleep Disorders Laboratory at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Houston, Texas.

Pay Range

Base pay: $63,808 - $82,956 per year. Actual pay depends on skills and experience.

Responsibilities
  • Explain procedures to patients to ensure comfort during sleep tests.
  • Operate polysomnographic instruments and recognize sleep stages and events.
  • Conduct respiratory treatments like PAP therapy as per protocols.
  • Perform patient assessments and share findings with healthcare team.
  • Select and adapt equipment for individual patients.
  • Calibrate and maintain sleep testing equipment.
  • Follow protocols for various sleep studies and device titrations.
Work Schedule

Week 1: Mon-Thu, 8:00 pm - 6:00 am. Week 2: Wed-Sun, 8:00 pm - 6:00 am.

Qualifications

Physical and Work Environment

Typical physical requirements include standing, lifting, and wearing PPE. Work is performed in a clinical setting with standard safety precautions.
